Rail Systems Integration Engineer

Stockholm, Sweden

About the Role

As a Rail Systems Integration Engineer at Ailit, you will own the software and control interfaces between our modular battery systems and freight locomotives. Your role is to ensure that our containerized energy platform integrates safely, predictably, and cleanly into real-world rail operations.

You will work at the boundary between embedded software, electrical interfaces, and locomotive control systems, translating rail operational constraints into concrete interface definitions and system behavior. This role is about making complex systems work reliably together in the field.

What You’ll Do

  • Own the control and software interfaces between Ailit’s battery systems and freight locomotives.
  • Define system states, commands, and fault behavior exposed to the locomotive.
  • Work closely with embedded software and power electronics teams to implement safe and predictable integration.
  • Specify low-voltage electrical interfaces, signals, wiring, and connector requirements.
  • Define behavior during normal operation, degraded modes, and fault conditions.
  • Support prototype integration, bring-up, and early field testing.
  • Translate rail operational realities into system requirements and interface documentation.
  • Contribute to test planning and validation together with safety and systems engineering.

You might thrive in this role if you:

  • Have experience working with locomotive control systems, rail vehicle integration, or industrial vehicle controls.
  • Are comfortable operating at the intersection of software, controls, and electrical systems.
  • Have worked in safety-critical or regulated environments where failure behavior matters.
  • Prefer practical integration and problem-solving over abstract software development.
  • Understand how operators, maintenance teams, and real-world constraints shape system design.

About us

Ailit is building modular battery systems for freight rail, enabling operators to reduce diesel consumption without changing train operations. We integrate batteries with our own power electronics, control software, and rail interfaces, assembling and operating the AI optimized energy systems for deployment in North America and other heavy-haul markets.

We are building the company with a strong focus on disciplined execution, technical depth, and long-term impact in critical industrial infrastructure.
