Locomotive Specialist

As a Locomotive Specialist at Ailit, you’ll be at the intersection of rail operations, engineering, and field deployment.

You’ll apply deep knowledge of locomotive systems, rail standards, and maintenance practices to help integrate Ailit’s battery-electric power systems into real-world operations.

You’ll work closely with our engineering team to validate performance, oversee retrofits, and ensure regulatory and operational compliance across pilot projects in North America.

This role is based in the United States, with regular travel to partner sites and rail facilities.

• Support integration and testing of Ailit’s battery-electric locomotives and PowerWagon systems.
• Advise engineering teams on locomotive architecture, controls, braking systems, and interoperability.
• Ensure compliance with FRA and AAR regulations for certification and safety.
• Coordinate with mechanical and electrical engineers to troubleshoot field issues.
• Supervise prototype assembly, yard testing, and maintenance activities during pilot phases.
• Serve as a practical bridge between Ailit’s technical development and rail operations teams.

• Have hands-on experience maintaining, rebuilding, or operating locomotives.
• Understand diesel-electric propulsion, braking, and control systems.
• Are familiar with U.S. rail standards (FRA, AAR, EPA Tier systems, etc.).
• Are comfortable working in rail yards, workshops, and test environments.
• Enjoy bringing new technology to life and solving real-world operational challenges.
